In the earliest days of railroading a dependable supply of water for the locomotives was a continual problem. In many places the only supply was underground water which could only be reached by drilling wells and installing pumps. In order to provide protection for the pumps a small house was built around the legs of the derrick used in drilling the well and the maintenance of equipment installed inside.

Every city, town, hamlet and junction along a steam railroad had its water tank and pump house and others were spaced between these points wherever they were required -- often out in the country, completely away from any sign of civilization.

This perfect little Pump House is of all-wood construction, with precision molded plastic windows and sheaves for the top of the tower. All wall pieces are cut to size and shape and the window openings are die-cut. Where the strip-wood parts are to be cut by the modeler, complete instructions and templates are given. Construction is simple enough for the beginner, yet interesting enough for the advanced model builder. A small space of only 2-3/4 x 3-1/4 inches is all it takes.
