One of our most unusual items is the Wharf kit. Incorporating the ultimate in authentic detailing, it never fails to attract more than its share of interest and attention when installed on a layout. It is pictured here in a setting with the Office portion of our Bret's Brewery at the end used as a Harbor Patrol Office and our Norm's Landing in the background.
Even though it appears terribly difficult to build, to borrow an old phrase "looks are deceiving". It may not be a pushover, but those who have built it claim it was worth a little extra work. All of the wood parts including pilings, beams, ties, decking, caps, etc, are cut to size. Easy-to-follow instructions and full size templates greatly simplify construction. Modeled after a wharf that is still in use along the Puget Sound water- front in Tacoma, Washington, it is typical of the wharves that were so important and necessary in past days. Wharves were built on the banks of rivers and the shores of lakes and oceans. Our kit was designed for use with our #0302 or #0303 kit if a Trestle extension is desired.
The Wharf as pictured is 22-3/8 inches long by 5-1/4 inches wide. The track is offset allowing ample room for stacks of lumber and other deck loads ready for the ships when they arrive. Add "barnacles" to the lower parts of the pilings, detail to the decking, a boat and fishermen near the float. Installed on your layout it will impress everyone.
