Among the most frequently noticed features of any stretch of track on main or branch lines are the short, low trestles over low spots, small streams, dry washes, country roads or drainage ditches.
Many of these trestles have a tightly timbered deck with the track carried on regular ties in ballast. This has several advantages for the railroad, in that there is less danger of sparks setting fire to the trestle, and the character of the track is uninterrupted.
This kit for the Ballasted Deck Trestle is prototyped-detailed, with individual planks for the deck and abutments, standard bracing for the 16" pile 'bents', and the usual many-timbered stringers under the deck. Designed for a generous 50 scale foot span, the trestle can either be divided into two shorter spans, or combined with one or more additional kits for longer spans.
